At BIS Publications we intend to bring the stories of people of African descent who have helped to make modern life and culture what it is today by championing great causes and leaving a legacy of which we should all be proud. Knowing that a path has been traveled be someone close or in some way related to you, goes a long way to imbuing a confidence in your own convictions and self worth.

We want these stories to inspire today's black children in particular and all children in general to reach for what they really want out of life. Many of the featured men and women have battled and overcome ridiculous odds to follow their passions and desires. They have etched a mark so firmly on the historical landscape that we need to go back and examine their lives and work, out of respect and to remind us of the giant potential lying latent within all of us.

We hope all the educators, parents and carers take a moment to consider how they can use the stories of the individuals featured in our publications to harness the genius in the young minds they come into contact with on a daily basis.
